Online Income Experiement #2: Facebook, Pinterest + Shopify

It’s been a while since my last blog post, but I promise it’s for good reason!  One of the online income experiments I’m working on started gaining momentum very quickly, so it’s been full steam ahead!

Introducing GorgeousiPadCases.com

Two weeks ago I started work on my latest experiment…Combining Facebook with affiliate products.

I wanted to know what would happen if I regularly posted beautifully designed iPad cases on Facebook along with the occasional affiliate link.  My thought was, it won’t make me rich but it could be enough to create a small, low maintenance income stream.

Quickly the Facebook page began coming together, with our following growing steadily.  I hired a contractor for a few hours a week to help me build the following further. She’s has had some amazing ideas including starting an Pinterest profile.

It has been amazing to see the effect Pinterest has been having, with many of our iPad cases being shared over and over again, essentially meaning that our affiliate links are being spread far and wide (potential $).

As we continued building our Facebook and Pinterst pages, we’ve had some wonderful opportunities present themselves which encouraged us to go a step further, importing products and setting up an online store – www.gorgeousipadcases.com

We’ve already been asked by a magazine for samples so they can review our products and we’re working on a few simple pathways that could lead to some great sales!

Visit our shop and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

I must admit, I’m having a lot of fun with this experiment so far.  Looking a beautiful things, socialising on social networks… and the shop was so simply to set up. I must say the online retail business model makes a lot of sense so far.

Can’t wait to share further details with you soon!

Online Income Experiment #1: zazzle.com

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been researching for ways we can start to utalise the internet to earn a little extra spending money. As part of my research I’ll be experimenting with them and documenting the results on the blog here.

Sell your creativity on zazzle.com!

Zazzle is a website that allows you to upload photos and designs to sell in the form of various products.  You can get creative and sell mugs, tshirts, skateboards and even iPad covers

“Sell your own creations! Bags, mugs, bumper stickers, iPhone cases… the list goes on.”

Getting Started

Getting started was fairly straight forward. It took me about 30 minutes to set up my Zazzle store and account, and another 10 minutes to upload the design for my first product.

If you’re interested in learning more about getting started, write a comment below. If I have enough interest I will create a tutorial showing you exactly how to get started.

Making my first ‘Zazzle’ sale

So far I have two bumper sticker designs on sale, and I’m hoping to add a few more products. It is so simple to create some designs and upload them I’d be crazy not to give it a try.

My stickers only went on sale 3 days ago, so no sales yet. As with many marketplaces like this, it will take time and a little creativity to spread the word about my products. I’m not expecting $1000′s in sales just yet.

My plan now is to keep a journal or what I am doing to promote my products so I can share my tips, tricks and results down the track.

Make sure you sign up to my newsletter if you’re interested in hearing more about my experience with Zazzle.

Recommended Skills for Zazzle…

Creativity and the desire to have a little fun is the key to Zazzle.

Knowing how to use a program like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is useful because it allows you to get even more creative, however if you don’t know any program like this, its not the end of the world. Zazzle has a creative editor built in which will allow you to get creative with out any other software.

3 simple steps to keeping in contact with family and friends!

Whether you love to travel or you live away from family and friends, it has never been easier to keep in contact with loved ones.

Up until two years ago, I never really understood video calls. Why on earth would I want the person I’m talking to on the phone to actually see me? I hate being on video… it just didn’t make sense.  Then my sister moved away to Queensland and our family was suddenly 1000km apart.

I already had Skype which I used for my business, but I rarely used the video call function. Now that it was my sister on the other end of the video call, what I looked like didn’t seem to matter quite so much. It was actually comforting to see her on my computer.

Two years later, we use the internet to keep in contact with my sister in multiple ways, but today I thought I’d share with you the one that has the most effect on ALL my family – Skype.

What is Skype?

Skype is a computer application that allows you to make a phone call over the internet. You can make a voice call or a video call, or you can just ‘chat’ by typing text.

As Skype utalises the internet, it is very cheap if not free to use.

Here are some quick videos that explain how to use Skype

Calling Skype to Skype:

Calling from Skype to a landline or mobile anywhere in the world! (Much cheaper than an international call!)

What does Skype cost?

The basic Skype application is free to download on to your computer, iPhone, smart phone, iPad or tablet.

  • To call Skype to Skype its free.
  • To call from Skype to a landline or mobile will depend on what countries you are calling to and from. Call start from 0.9 cents per minute. Much cheaper than an standard international call.
How to get started with Skype

1) First of all you’ll need to download the  Skype Application.
Decide where you would like to use Skype… on your computer, mobile or tablet?

Earning money for traveling…

Do you love to travel? Are you planning a big trip around Australia, or even overseas?

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to earn a little extra spending money for traveling?

There is always fruit picking, working in your trade as you go or maybe even selling products on the road.

Since my Europe adventure last year, I’ve been looking in for ways to make the most of the internet to earn a little extra pocket money. As it turns out there are so many opportunities available that I never knew existed. Its just a matter of finding these opportunities and being able to work out what is legitimate and which ones to be wary of.

Over the past few months I’ve found some very interesting opportunities.

Did you know that with the help of a simple internet connection, you could find yourself earning a little extra spending money, regardless of where you are in the world.

For example, you could get paid for:

  1. Giving your opinion
  2. Selling your photos
  3. Writing
  4. Drawing
  5. Location Scouting
  6. Consulting
  7. Teaching/Tutoring

And these are just a taste of what I have found so far

I’m now working my way through these, testing, researching and finding the most effective ways to make the most of these opportunities. The good news? I’ve already found so many resources that will help us along the way.

As part of Independee, I am planning on sharing my findings with you and then help you to find a way to apply these to your lifestyle.

Check back soon to follow my journey, and find out how you can begin your own adventure.

Welcome to Independee

Wow! This first blog post has been a long time coming.

The Independee concept has been simmering away in the back of my mind for over 4 years now, and finally its out there in front of the world!

Over the past few years, it has really come to my attention that the internet has this amazing potential to improve our lives dramatically. We are only using the very top layer of the internet right now, but there are so many exciting possibilities.

Let me share a story…

This time last year I was preparing for my first overseas adventure… on my own. On June 16 I headed of to Europe, and it was all thanks to the internet that I could keep in touch with my family and friends. I didn’t feel thousands of kilometres away from home.

Not only did email, Skype and Facebook make it easy to share my experiences with everyone at home, but I also earned an income while I was traveling. I’ve been running my web design business for 2 years now, and thanks to the internet it was possible for me to continue working with new and existing clients while I was out exploring the world.  London, Copenhagen, Salzburg and Venice… it was all an adventure, and a lengthy one at that thanks to the location independence the internet gave me.

So why have I created Independee?

I believe that all retirees deserve to live a retirement that they love. After all, they’ve worked hard all their life and its time to be rewarded for this.

During my research, I’ve found some alarming facts and figures about retirement. From finance to mental health, I believe that the internet has the potential to change lives.

  1. I want to share my love and passion for the internet, and its ability to inspire, challenge and feeling of accomplishment.
  2. I believe the internet has the potential to change the quality of your life, by offering you new and exciting things to try (which have the potential to earn you some extra spending money).
